Footnote: Pin-Screen Demonstration by Alexeieff/Parker

This brilliant demonstration is intended as an addendum to Monday’s post regarding Jacques Drouin’s masterpiece, Mindscape. Here we see an excerpt of a workshop from 1972 held by Alexeieff/Parker for a group of Canadian animation students, as they learn the technique and create some fascinating screen tests using the pin-screen format.  As this workshop was documented by the great Norman McLaren, you can view the hour-long demonstration on the wonderful, indispensable Norman McLaren: Masters Edition DVD set from the NFB.  Fascinating, and painstaking, material here; it’s a privilege to see such visionaries share their unique talent.  Enjoy.
